My Story

Ebony Gibbs is an artist born and raised in South London, a young black woman of Jamaican heritage who never knew she had a passion for art until she decided to do it for A levels, even though she never did it for GCSEs. She had no idea about the fundamentals or the bigger picture of art, It was like going into the ocean without learning how to swim. But with support from her teachers and those close around her, she learned to do backstrokes and more. However, she believes she hasn’t reached the deep end just yet.

Ebony became an artist because she wants to make her imaginations become real, for people to see and be inspired by the stories each of her works tell.

Ebony mainly uses wood canvases, acrylic paint and ink for her traditional works; she is still learning, experimenting and wanting to use different mediums in future. She digitally paints on her iPad Pro and Wacom Cintiq, using both photoshop and procreate.

Her works consist of quick strokes and flicks of acrylic paint to convey the fast movements, she also uses a dipping pen to create thin or thick ink lines and other techniques to create exciting effects. Digitally she uses different blending modes and noise effects to create contrast, texture and aesthetics in her pieces.

Ebony has been inspired by many things in her life such as music, anime, great artists like Jean Michel Basquiat, game art, artists on social media, artworks on Pinterest. Many of these influences have played a big part in her art journey and she is grateful to have been influenced by them.

Ebony has a vision to inspire, she is a very optimistic person who believes that anything

is possible with enough self-belief and hard work. Numerous artworks have inspired her and led her to this great moment in her life, she wants to share her creativity with the world to do the same!
